Website Function

Coral Reef TV provides access to over 200 live and recorded video streams, with content curated for easy discovery. Videos are organized into 10–15 categories, each offering a limited, carefully selected set of options so users can quickly find something to watch without feeling overwhelmed. The interface is designed for simplicity, featuring large text labels and intuitive icons for easy navigation. Videos automatically play in a three-quarter screen view by default, with an option to switch to full screen, and each includes a short description for helpful context.  A key feature is the always-visible large “Previous Page” button, allowing users to exit a video and return to browsing instantly. This makes it easy to preview multiple videos and choose one with minimal effort. Content is intentionally limited within each category to simplify decisions and make it easier to rediscover favorites. Coral Reef TV can be used on PCs and tablets for personal viewing, or connected to a TV as a continuous, passive display of relaxing nature content. It works well in both private rooms and shared spaces, with setup guidance available in the resources section.

Health Benefits

Coral Reef TV is more than something to watch—it’s something that enhances daily life.  Beyond entertainment, Coral Reef TV brings meaningful value to its viewers. Nature-based programming provides a calming alternative to leaving a traditional TV channel running all day.  In contrast, continuous exposure to daily news can often be overwhelming, contributing to stress, anxiety, and even depression.  Research shows that nature-based content can improve mood, reduce stress, and support healthier eating and sleeping habits, making it a valuable addition to any care environment.  For example, a study conducted by the University of California, Berkeley in collaboration with BBC Earth found that people can experience some of the mental health benefits of being outdoors simply by watching wildlife videos. A growing body of research highlights the positive health effects of nature-based viewing, and we are happy to provide supporting studies upon request.

Key Features & Benefits

Coral Reef TV offers distinct advantages—especially within the senior care environment—that set it apart from other websites:

1) Live Streaming - Coral Reef TV provides live streaming, allowing viewers to engage with content in real time as it happens. Unlike other services that rely on recorded videos played on a loop, our platform delivers a dynamic and authentic viewing experience in a user-friendly format.

2) User-Controlled Content - Users have full control over what they watch and can easily switch between their favorite live streams and not be limited to one or two streams. Coral Reef TV’s intuitive “Previous Page” button allows users to exit a video and resume browsing without navigating through multiple menus. Content is thoughtfully organized into simple categories with a limited number of options, making it easy to explore, preview, and revisit preferred videos with minimal effort.

3) Simplicity by Design - The platform is designed with simplicity in mind. Users can access live streams in just a few clicks, with clearly labeled controls and no complicated setup. There’s no need for logins, installations, or technical support. While designed with seniors in mind, anyone who values a clean, straightforward experience will feel at home.

4) A Smarter Alternative to Physical Aquariums – Traditional aquariums can be expensive to maintain and may raise environmental concerns on fish collection techniques. Coral Reef TV offers a vibrant, cost-effective alternative—featuring colorful marine life in its natural habitat, with no upkeep required. Best of all, Coral Reef TV is completely free to use.

How to Navigate the Coral Reef TV Website

1) Navigate to the Home Screen

From your laptop or tablet, navigate to www.coralreeftv.com.  From the home page, select Webcams in the top Menu.  From there, you will see the different categories to choose from.  Select one of the categories to get started. Selections can be made by touching once (we eliminated all “double click” operation on the website) for touch screens or clicking once with a mouse pointer if using a mouse.

2) Select the Video

Once you select the category, select the desired video.  In this example, we selected “Air Critters Live Nest Cams”.  From there, just select the desired video. In this example, we selected “Bald Eagle Cam Big Bear Valley”.  To go back to the webcam home screen to change the category, touch/click the “Previous Page” button once and you will return to the category page.

3) Start Watching Your Video

Once you select the video, you will see our unique in-line screen with the video automatically started.  You can see a short description at the bottom that describes more about the video content.  To go back to the previous screen to pick another video, just click on the “Previous Page” button on the lower right side of the page.  You can cycle through multiple videos in a short period of time to find the one that is most interesting at that time.  For live streams, sometimes “Nothing” is happening and it quick to move on to another video.

Ways to Enjoy Coral Reef TV

Individual Use on the Go

In senior living environments, residents can use a tablet in their room or anywhere with Wi-Fi coverage. They may hold the tablet while watching from a bed or chair, or place it on a table for hands-free use. The tablet can also connect to an in-room TV, allowing residents to enjoy a favorite live cam throughout the day as a calming alternative to distressing news or repetitive programming.  Facilities can offer a small number of affordable tablets dedicated to Coral Reef TV for resident checkout. We provide guidance on purchasing refurbished, like-new tablets in the $100–$150 range and configuring them for simple use. Devices can be set up with no login and limited access to Coral Reef TV only, so residents can turn them on and start watching instantly without navigating apps or cluttered screens. These low-cost tablets contain no personal information and present minimal security risk. Standard protections and updates from Windows, iPadOS, or Android help keep them secure. If needed, the tablet can be reset to factory settings and reconfigured in under 15 minutes.  For added privacy, all microphones and cameras should be disabled in settings and physically covered.

Display on a Common Area TV – Use as a Virtual Aquarium

A tablet connected to the facility’s guest Wi-Fi can easily stream content to any television using a wireless transmitter, built-in Miracast technology, or an HDMI cable (if supported). This flexible setup allows installation anywhere a TV is available, including entrances, rehabilitation areas, dining or snack spaces, and common rooms. The system transforms everyday environments into visually soothing, immersive spaces while preserving full access to standard TV functionality through an auxiliary input. Our Virtual Aquarium offers several key advantages over traditional aquariums:

1) Lower Maintenance Costs Traditional aquariums can cost over $100 per month to maintain. Our virtual solution eliminates these ongoing expenses while also freeing up valuable floor space.

2) Dynamic and Engaging Content Unlike static tanks, our system provides access to a wide variety of underwater and nature streams. Content can be refreshed daily or weekly, ensuring a continually engaging experience for residents and visitors.

3) Environmentally Responsible Many fish in traditional aquariums are sourced from coral reefs, where harvesting practices can damage delicate ecosystems and result in high mortality rates. Our Virtual Aquarium promotes marine conservation by showcasing ocean life responsibly and supporting awareness of preservation efforts.
